RBC818: Research Orders & Encounters in Epic

Description: This course will provide an overview of the research order and encounters functionality currently available in the Epic electronic medical record system. Note: Prior to August 2019, this content was taught in RBC808 but it is now split into its own class.

Audience: If you are responsible for reviewing research billing charges in Epic, and/or paying for study-funded patient costs, this advanced level course is for you!

Learning Objectives: As a result of participation in this activity, participants should be able to:


  • Explain the Epic Study Administrative Record and the OnCore fields that interface with the Epic study record to keep the study information up-to-date.

  • Explain the Epic Research Participant Registration Record and the OnCore fields that interface with the Epic participant record to keep the study subject information up-to-date.

  • Link study-required services and encounters to the study and describe how the UF Research Appt Search for Coordinator report can streamline this workflow for study teams.
